Microneedling for Black Skin

Microneedling is getting more common these days owing to the huge benefits it provides to people with all skin types. It is a skin treatment which does not require removing the epidermis in order to develop a new skin layer (non-ablative). The procedure mainly improves the appearance and texture of black skin. Dark skin, usually suffers many side effects from ablative treatments as such techniques are not really compatible with high levels of melanin, for example, burning, cutting and abrading techniques that can cause infections, hyper or hypopigmentation and scarring as well. These damages are long-term due to which it is better to turn to safe methods. Studies were reviewed of micro needling for patients with Periorbital Melanosis, Acne vulgaris, Actinic Keratosis, Primary Hyperhidrosis, Scars, Melasma, Varicella Scarring and skin rejuvenation. It proves to be an extremely favorable one for darker skin types as there is minimal risk of adverse effects and can yield clinical effectiveness at the same time. It can also be repeated more than once since the epidermis is preserved and is found to be tolerable along people.

Why microneedling works so well and how does it help?

It is based on the natural ability of the skin to repair itself when injured permitting controlled management of the skin automatically triggering collagen synthesis. The channels help to give deeper penetration for radiant, fresh look in case there are anti-aging products applied. The microneedling technique makes use of microneedles as the name states that pricks the dermis and epidermis making tiny punctures in the skin. This is an intentional injury, but other than that, there is no other damage. The skin usually takes 2 days to repair whilst stimulating the process of healing, tricking the body to make new collagen. Heat by any means is not involved (chemicals after it are optional) making it very safe for dark skin. Even though there is new growth of new skin cells that significantly increases the blood circulation, the layer of the skin remains intact. There are no unwanted side effects and results are the same every single time you go for it. The thickness and smoothness of the skin increases as the skin tissue gets rebuilt over time. This way, all the fine lines, scars, pigmentations, wrinkles, and spots naturally disappear.

What is the procedure of microneedling?

The principals involved in Microneedling are neovascularisation and neocollagenesis. When the needles penetrate the stratum corneum, the growth factors are stimulated and released which aid in treating photoaging and scars. The skin becomes very firm and rejuvenated after 4 to 6 sessions depending on the skin type. Moreover, the absorption capacity of the skin also increases through these microchannels. Sometimes, the supplements and serums are also applied or combined to assist the process which will give maximum benefit in less time by permeating deep into the layers of the skin. All in all, micro needling cause minimal pain compared to other skin techniques along with lowest recovery time making it the best skin treatment, especially for black skin.
